Texas Drifter: Talking Trash Patriots Worthless

Marshall’s Law Dateline – Title “Talking Trash Patriots Worthless” is fact not question. This writing exercise contains three letters from Colonel Travis under siege at Alamo rarely read by Texans and Americans.

Writing exercise concept “what if” examples.
1. What if those signing Declaration of Independence had not signed the document for fear of angering tyrannical King; much like Republican leaders are too cowardly to challenge self appointed emperor Obama.
2. What if American patriots had left Valley Forge, because it was just too cold to fight for liberty?
3. What if Colonel Travis’s volunteer and regular troops had crossed Travis’s line and left Colonel Travis alone in Alamo?
4. What if General Houston had not burned the “escape” bridge so his troops could cut and run if the battle became too violent?
5. What if brave Americans in every battle during World War II and since then in national security conflicts had decided to walk away rather than fight because they might get wounded or worse?
6. What if Heaven’s Son had said being crucified to offer salvation to sinners seems too violent; and had renounced being Heaven’s Son? How different would your life be now?
7. In Fact how different would your life be now if untold millions of Americans who made sacrifices so you could remain free had just been trash talking patriots?

Following three letters from Colonel Travis are rarely read by many Texans and most Americans. Reader can reference more about Colonel Travis and General Houston at Marshall’s Law Texas Drifter Library Entry # 641 – Texas Drifter: War of Words Matter.

FIRST LETTER (letters present as written with out grammatical changes)

To Major-General Sam Houston
February 25, 1836

HEADQUARTERS, FORT OF THE ALAMO: Sir; On the 23rd of Feb., the enemy in large force entered the city of Bexar, which could not be prevented, as I had not sufficient force to occupy both positions. Col. Bartes, the Adjutant-Major of the President-General Santa Anna, demanded surrender at discretion, calling us foreign rebels. I answered them with a cannon shot, upon which the enemy commenced a bombardment with a five inch howitzer, which together with a heavy cannonade, has been kept up incessantly ever since. I instantly sent express to Col. Fannin, at Goliad, and to the people of Gonzales and San Felipe. Today at 10 o'clock a.m. some two or three hundred Mexicans crossed the river below and came up under cover of the houses until they arrived within virtual point blank shot, when we opened a heavy discharge of grape and canister on them, together with a well directed fire from small arms which forced them to halt and take shelter in the houses about 90 or 100 yards from our batteries. The action continued to rage about two hours, when the enemy retreated in confusion, dragging many of their dead and wounded.

During the action, the enemy kept up a constant bombardment and discharge of balls, grape, and canister. We know from actual observation that many of the enemy were wounded -- while we, on our part, have not lost a man. Two or three of our men have been slightly scratched by pieces of rock, but have not been disabled.

I take great pleasure in stating that both officers and men conducted themselves with firmness and bravery. Lieutenant Simmons of cavalry acting as infantry, and Captains Carey, Dickinson and Blair of the artillery, rendered essential service, and Charles Despallier and Robert Brown gallantly sallied out and set fire to houses which afforded the enemy shelter, in the face of enemy fire.

Indeed, the whole of the men who were brought into action conducted themselves with such heroism that it would be injustice to discriminate. The Hon. David Crockett was seen at all points, animating the men to do their duty.

Our numbers are few and the enemy still continues to approximate his works to ours. I have every reason to apprehend an attack from his whole force very soon; but I shall hold out to the last extremity, hoping to secure reinforcements in a day or two. Do hasten on aid to me as rapidly as possible, as from the superior number of the enemy, it will be impossible for us to keep them out much longer.

If they overpower us, we fall a sacrifice at the shrine of our country, and we hope prosperity and our country will do our memory justice. Give me help, oh my country! Victory or Death!

W. Barret Travis
Lt. Col. Com

SECOND LETTER

To the President of the Convention
March 3, 1836

COMMANDANCY OF THE ALAMO, BEJAR: In the present confusion of the political authorities of the country, and in the absence of the commander-in-chief, I beg leave to communicate to you the situation of this garrison.

You have doubtless already seen my official report of the action of the 25th ult. made on that day to General Sam Houston, together with the various communications heretofore sent by express. I shall, therefore, confine myself to what has transpired since that date...

I have so fortified this place, that the walls are generally proof against cannon-balls; and I shall continue to entrench on the inside, and strengthen the walls by throwing up dirt. At least two hundred shells have fallen inside our works without having injured a single man; indeed, we have been so fortunate as not to lose a man from any cause, and we have killed many of the enemy. The spirits of my men are still high, although they have had much to depress them.

We have contended for ten days against an enemy whose numbers are variously estimated at from fifteen hundred to six thousand ... A report was circulated that Santa Anna himself was with the enemy, but I think it was false.

A reinforcement of one thousand men is now entering Bexar from the west, and I think it more than probable that Santa Anna is now in town, from the rejoicing we hear.

Col. Fannin is said to be on the march to this place with reinforcements; but I fear it is not true, … I will, however, do the best I can under the circumstances, and I feel confident that the determined valour and desperate courage, heretofore evinced by my men, will not fail them in the last struggle, and although they may be sacrifieced to the vengeance of a Gothic enemy, the victory will cost the enemy so dear, that it will be worse for him than a defeat.

I hope your honorable body will hasten on reinforcements, ammunition, and provisions to our aid, as soon as possible … The power of Santa Anna is to be met here or in the colonies; we had better meet them here, than to suffer a war of desolation to rage our settlements. A blood-red banner waves from the church of Bexar, and in the camp above us, in token that the war is one of vengeance against rebels; they have declared us as such, and demanded that we should surrender at discretion or this garrison should be put to the sword.

Their threats have had no influence on me or my men, but to make all fight with desperation, and that high-souled courage which characterizes the patriot, who is willing to die in defense of his country's liberty and his own honor.

The citizens of this municipality are all our enemies except those who have joined us heretofore; we have but three Mexicans now in the fort; those who have not joined us in this extremity, should be declared public enemies, and their property should aid in paying the expenses of the war.

The bearer of this will give you your honorable body, a statement more in detail, should he escape through the enemy's lines. God and Texas! --
Victory or Death!!

P.S. The enemy's troops are still arriving, and the reinforcements will probably amount to two or three thousand.

THIRD LETTER
To Jesse Grimes
March 3, 1836

Do me the favor to send the enclosed to its proper destination instantly. I am still here, in fine spirits and well to do, with 145 men…

All our couriers have gotten out without being caught and a company of 32 men from Gonzales got in two nights ago, and Colonel Bonham got in today by coming between the powder house and the enemy's upper encampment. … under the flag of independence, we are ready to peril our lives a hundred times a day, and to drive away the monster who is fighting us under a blood-red flag, threatening to murder all prisoners and make Texas a waste desert.

I shall have to fight the enemy on his own terms, yet I am ready to do it, and if my countrymen do not rally to my relief, I am determined to perish in the defense of this place, and my bones shall reproach my country for her neglect…

My respects to all friends, confusion to all enemies. God Bless you.

Assignment Question: First two steps to saving Heaven’s favorite constitutional ethical capitalist republic are:
1. Know what beliefs are worth defending
2. Know both yours’ and America’s Judases and mortal enemies (reader can list). Judases should include Republican leaders who go along too get along with America’s domestic mortal enemies that reader can list. TRUE or FALSE

Bonus Question – General Eisenhower thought people who lived around and did business with Hitler’s death camps were accessories by their silence. Republican leaders and others, who tolerate with their silence possibly millions of deaths from Obama Care, are also accessories to domestic political genocide. TRUE or FALSE

Texas Drifter: War of Words Matters

Marshall’s Law Dateline – Why war of words matters; may be easier to win war of metaphorical swords if one has already won war of words. New war of words issue is reducing armed defense options for peace through nuclear Armageddon.

Difference between America’s good guys and bad guys: bad guys are fighting their war of words with excrement based propaganda out of mouths of tyrants and domestic war criminals.

Good guys (reader can list) are defending America’s traditions, values, and principles like inalienable rights in their war of words with truths for life; liberty known as free will; and private property acquired through ethical capitalism.

Inalienable rights defenses can be expressed by
1. Ten Commandments
2. Act of Abjuration 1581
3. Declaration of Independence
4. U.S. Constitution
5. Bill of Rights
6. Ethical capitalism
7. Other views expressed by defenders of liberties

Bad guys beliefs are motivated by vanity; selfishness; greed; stealing; hate; lust for power over others lives, health, properties, and achievements.

Above good guys might want to remember and celebrate upcoming anniversaries of both defenders at Alamo and at San Jacinto both during spring time 1836.

Texans and other Americans need to remember that Colonel Travis and Colonel Bowie who served “side by side” behind crumbling walls of old church; formed a temporary coalition as they planned a duel to the death after Texas won its Independence. They placed Texas’ future above their personal differences.

Something more Texans and Americans might consider doing for America’s future in contemporary war of words against contemporary tyrants and tyrannies.

Many Texans and fewer Americans are familiar with Colonel Travis’ best known letter from Alamo with following introduction:

Commandancy of the Alamo
Bejar, Feby. 24, 1836
To the People of Texas & All Americans in the World
Fellow citizens & compatriots

I am besieged, by a thousand or more of the Mexicans under Santa Anna I have sustained a continual Bombardment & cannonade for 24 hours & have not lost a man The enemy has demanded a surrender at discretion, otherwise, the garrison are to be put to the sword, if the fort is taken I have answered the demand with a cannon shot, & our flag still waves proudly from the walls I shall never surrender or retreat.

(Reader can reference rest of letter them self except for ending)

P.S. The Lord is on our side. When the enemy appeared in sight we had not three bushels of corn. We have since found in deserted houses 80 or 90 bushels and got into the walls 20 or 30 head of Beeves. Travis

Most bad guys and many good guys ignore fact that Colonel Travis believed “The Lord is on our side”. A belief many contemporary good guys are now to vain to appreciate.

How many Texans and Americans are familiar with last letter to leave the Alamo?

To David Ayers
March 3, 1836
Take care of my little boy. If the country should be saved, I may make for him a splendid fortune; but if the country be lost and I should perish, he will have nothing but the proud recollection that he is the son of a man who died for his country.

Note: The letter to David Ayers is the last known letter written by Travis before the fall of the Alamo on the morning of March 6, 1836. William Barret Travis died at his post on the cannon platform at the northeast corner of the fortress.

How many Texas and Americans know story of Travis’ ring?

In 1835 Travis joined the Texian army as it prepared to battle Mexico for Texas Independence, promising Cummings that as soon as his divorce was final they would marry. As a parting gesture of his affection, he gave her a brooch; and Cummings the cat’s eye ring from her finger and gave it to him. Travis threaded it on a piece of twine and wore it around his neck. He would never see Rebecca again.

Knowing his death was imminent, wrote Betty Smith Meischen in her book “From Jamestown to Texas: A History of Some Early Pioneers of Austin County” [iUniverse 2002], Travis placed the string with the ring around the neck of 15-month-old Angelina Dickinson, one of the non-combatants who survived the siege. Every defender was killed.

It would be nice to think that after such a traumatic beginning, Angelina the “babe of the Alamo” who inherited Travis’ precious ring went on to live a happy life. But this was not the case.

Another example of war of w0rds includes General Houston’s example at San Jacinto. Taking a brief step back, definition of motivate is provide person with desire to act.

General Sam Houston had two types of motivations at Battle of San Jacinto. First, cowardly command at Goliad; and second, heart and souls full of courage at Alamo.

When the time was right, General Sam had two messages, one for his troops and one for his enemies. Sam’s first message to his troops: I ordered my scouts to burn all bridges. No one comes in, no one retreats. I must have Santa Anna alive. Remember Goliad. Remember the Alamo.

Casualty reports from April 21st eighteen minute battle sent Houston’s enemies the second message: six hundred enemy killed, two hundred enemy wounded, and 732 enemy captured. Santa Anna was captured the next day after fleeing the battle like a coward.

Out numbered two to one, Republic of Texas casualties were two killed and twenty-three wounded. The wounded included General Sam Houston. When asked about his part in the battle, one Texan answered, I would not have stopped killing those ######## if Jesus Christ himself had asked me too.

Other war of words examples includes Texas Constitution of 1836 which started not ended with Bill of Rights for Texans. Second example involves 1876 Texas Constitution following Yankee Republicans economic and physical genocide against people of South following Civil War in 1860’s.

This writing exercise will not identify Yankee Republican conservative carpetbaggers and scalawags which can be left for another writing exercise.

Third type of players in war of words involves celebrity word marketers whose primary motives are profits through ratings. Recall more often than not timeless truths creates enemies.

Summary war of words:
1. win war of words
2. form coalitions to win
3. develop winning strategy
4. win war of metaphorical swords
5. honor fallen; thank Heaven for blessings; keep faith and keep powder dry; keep one all the time and other as needed
6. almost forgot justice for unwashed and those with middle class attitudes; and no security for guilty

Translation Nuremberg type domestic war crime trials for leaders of evil. Beware not to let revenge create atrocities by cult leaders like Robespierre or 1860’s Yankee Republican conservative carpetbaggers.

War of words should not be about replacing past Marxist-fascist Democrat Party evils with Republican Party evils. TRUE or FALSE

Bonus Questions, more like writing assignment, twenty-five words or less: What America’s traditions, values, and principles like inalienable rights mean to you; and why they are worth defending.

New issue for war of words: Obama’s Marxist-fascists, along with support of corporate fascist Republican establishment ruling elite aristocrats’ policies to reduce size of America’s armed forces to fight one front war while trying to contain second front war; reduces national security options and will probably push America to use nuclear weapons to survive. TRUE or FALSE

Clue: Americans seem to be getting too stupid to survive as free peoples. Truth be known; Obama’s Marxist-fascists and corporate fascist Republicans are promoting nuclear Armageddon. Peace through nuclear war …Peace through nuclear war …

Texas Drifter: What Some Parents Teach Children

Marshall’s Law Dateline – Question can parents teach their children to be mean or like being a victim?

Players:
1. Client (C)
2. Investigator (I)

Client (blurts out): Kids learn from somewhere – You are an investigator – Find out where:
1. My daughter learned to tolerate being domestic abuse victim, and
2. My son learned to abuse women and children.

Investigator: Not a social worker, counselor, or therapist

Client: You’re an investigator – investigate – find out where my kids learned to like being a victim and abusing others. I demand justice from those who messed up my kids. Job pays fifty thousand cash plus expenses. When can you start?

Investigator: Have to think about when – used to getting paid to find out who is too blanked up to know they are blanked up; not why some one is too blanked up to know they are blanked up.

Investigator Continues: Want all cash up front – just in case you do not like final report. Plus want unlimited access to all you and your families’ social and business contacts. My terms are not negotiable.

Client: Done – You will have your cash within two hours.

Investigator – Good will be in touch when I have your final report.

(Seventeen days later Investigator schedules meeting to deliver report to Client)

Investigator: Two parts of report based on following principles:

Part I - Parental Character Traits Based on Conduct not Lectures
1. Shows no respect for others (hate speech)
2. Envies others’ property, possessions, achievements (greed – example borrows others’ property returns property broken or damaged and never “makes right”)
3. Breaks promises (always lies when telling truth is easier)
4. Constantly looking for opportunity to cheat (steals known as thief)

Part II – Symptoms of above Parental Character Traits
1. Starts hurting others for their “own good”
2. Become routinely sadistic because they “can”
3. Become vainer as they get older because they thrive on lust for power to hurt
4. Profile list: sadistic; hater; greedy; liar; thief

(Investigator hands Client folder)

Investigator: Here is your “Report Summary” with person you are demanding justice from.

(Client opens folder to see eight inch by ten inch mirror)

(Client screams “What is this” and throws mirror against wall)

Investigator (calmly states): That should get you seven years bad luck.

Investigator Continues: Children have two learning options. First learn to be like their parents. Second learn not to be like their parents. Since you “protected” your children by not letting them be around others. Conclusion both your daughter and son learned to like pain and be mean like you.

Client: What about my wife she should share some of your blame

Investigator: Your children watched you drive their loving mother to suicide; and chose to become mean survivor like you no matter pain inflicted or pain received. Trouble with truth based on valid observations also known as facts; truth can never be changed with denials; lies; or propaganda.

Client: That’s it?

Investigator: You can smash every mirror in the world; and still not change spiritual fact that judgment day is personal. Old timers say advice is worth what you pay for it. Following is free security advice.

Investigator continues: Just guessing your daughter and son have probably already picked out cheapest nursing home on planet earth for your final years. A nursing home, I might add, they will never visit or will any one else you know.

Investigator adds: From Hades on earth to Hades in eternity; gives new meaning to justice for sins of parent like you. Case closed

Moving on to assignment review questions: Being a mean parent who teaches their children to be mean or like being hurt is not illegal or a crime unless Obama issues another executive order. TRUE or FALSE

Bonus question: human condition evolves from falling in love; staying in love; falling out of love; to tolerating or just not caring one way or the other. Then there are “those” like above client who hurts others for pleasure.

Above reference to “those” are truly mean ones among us in U.S. Reader knows “those” like Obama his political allies, including Obama’s Republican leaders in both U.S. Senate and U.S. House are all “those” that keep law enforcement, private security, and investigators in business. TRUE or FALSE

Editor Marshall’s Note: One reader asks me how Texas Drifter creates his “bonus questions”. Texas Drifter reported that idea for last bonus question came while he was engaged in surveillance of one hundred seventy-five to two hundred Black Vultures (incorrectly called buzzards).

Why, since there was no water near; and it seemed too early for their roosting; narrows options to feeding. When that many Black Vultures are “dining” in ranch scout’s territory, answers to what they are feasting on are part of job.

That many migrating Black Vultures represent “eating machine” capable of consuming thousand plus pounds of carrion a day. Fact, not even Texas jack rabbits are that big in Texas. Now reader knows what Texas Drifter was doing when he came up with idea for above “bonus question”.

Editor Marshall’s Second Note: Texas Drifter acknowledges that various Attention Deficit Disorder diagnosis’s and accompanying prescription drugs (many just motivated for profits) for children mostly from single parent families involves origins of violence issues for another writing exercise.
