Texas Drifter: Down Sides Texas Open Carry
Marshall’s Law Dateline – Pragmatic decisions generally involve impartially comparing down sides to up sides. Example, concealed carry and open carry require different skills; hence different training.
Definition of pragmatic is relating to matters of fact often to exclusion of idealism or artistic matters.
Before Texas Drifter forgets, perhaps Reader can help this older citizen-patriot recall who said: We use capitalism to finance socialism.
Few FBI statistical facts about armed confrontations:
1. Eighty-five percent of all confrontations are less than twenty feet
2. Ninety percent of all killings are between zero and ten feet
3. Fifty percent of all killings are five feet or less
4. More than seventy-four percent of all shootings are during darkness or in dim light
5. More than sixty percent of confrontations are over in two to three seconds
6. At least forty-eight percent of confrontations involve more than one assailant
7. Once armed assailant is confronted, chances are forty to sixty percent assailant will shoot
8. Estimated more than ninety percent of all fatal shootings are caused by fatal non-alertness
9. Reader might reference: STREET SURVIVAL: TACTICS FOR ARMED ENCOUNTERS by Ronald J. Adams and Thomas a. McTernan – Caliber Press
Observations comparing concealed carry and open carry:
1. Concealed carry does not readily identify targets for bad guys; open carry readily identifies targets for bad guys; Two samples, undercover agents do not usually wear name tags identifying them as undercover agents; plus many executive protection personnel (body guards) “dress down” so as not to give bad guys chance to shoot them before taking out their client – more explanations can be provided at another time
2. Armed scenario options
a) Avoid crisis scenario
b) Mental state similar to “buck fever” which can be between “freezing” to exaggerated tunnel vision
c) Panic and soot everything that moves or is in vicinity
d) Break even (get shot stopping threat and survive)
e) Walkaway after shooting
3. Reflexes take over and one performs like they trained with continuous practice – Consider following insert from Marshall’s Law Texas Drifter Library Entry# 785 - Editor Marshall’s Note for some of Texas Drifter’s students tag: other reference materials updates, can be found at texasdrifterreadbeforeyoubuy.blogspot.com (to) View My complete Profile (to) ML Dateline Volume III (to) Tx D Volume 2 (Spy As a Verb: Art and Ethics of Surveillance) (to) <23> Page 44 and insert into notes where appropriate:
a) Feral human conduct scenarios are likely to involve multiple attackers from small packs to herds
b) Techniques: pre-count to know confrontation “steps” yours and bad guys
c) Decision making stops when reflexes begin
d) Disciplined reflexes are not affected by emotions; and improve with constant training also called practice
4. There are no “do overs” after accidental shootings
5. Texas would probably not need open carry provisions if “temporary concealed carry permits” were available for “emergency threatening” situations in less than twenty-four hours. Exceptions could be considered for those depending on “good for only toilet paper” restraining orders; as everyone knows or should know that public law enforcement response times generally leave them to only find deceased with bad guy gone. Open carry provides threatened opportunity to protect themselves when public law enforcement cannot.
6. One down side of open carry is that it can provide bad guys with access to readily available weapons in social and commercial settings. Bad guy demands while holding knife to child; give me your weapon or I will cut her throat – What would you do Reader; give bad guy your open carry weapon or let bad guy cut your child’s throat? – Could open carry result in more collateral damage in preceding scenario?
7. Some are thinking that Texas Drifter is “worrying too much” – Security consulting is a one mistake business – clients are not likely to hire those who got their last clients killed; regardless of excuse or reason – Reader can choose word. Question, which self-defense activity requires more training, concealed carry or open carry?
8. Registration for concealed carry permit in Texas requires solid back ground check. Law enforcement officer sees permit, and knows that permit holder has undergone thorough background check. Officer sees individual walking down street with open carry weapon; officer does not know if that individual is illegal immigrant drug cartel gangster or member of some Islamic Nazi terrorist group. Seems that open carry participants should be required to undergo similar background check required when purchasing new store bought gun.
9. One down side to both concealed carry and open carry is that “bullets” are impartial or neutral to what they hit or damage they do, once bullet/s leave chamber.
10. One upside to bother concealed carry and open carry, it sure is nice to have bullets leaving the chamber to protect life, health, liberty, and property from: tyrants, foreign enemies, domestic bad guys, and crazies that want to do innocents harm.
11. Reader might reference following Marshall’s Law Texas Drifter Library Entry # 742 “Sacred Origin Second Amendment” for more information.
Moving on to indirectly related recent news story: Sony / North Korea scenario – seems way too easy for Americans to “mouth off” about how brave they are about North Korean threats, especially since these Americans are not in North Korea’s immediate line of fire. Reader should recall that responses to North Korea should not be based on false vanity or fear; rather the observation that the primary bad guy player is a real “crazy” dictator; who would not have a problem launching rockets into South Korea and or Japan.
Another point to keep in mind, why should any American believe Obama without VERIFIABLE FACTS that indicate North Korea was involved. Has Reader forgotten Obama’s Administration’s lies about: Fast and Furious I; Fast and Furious II (Benghazi); IRS harassing conservative voters; Obama Care; or any other Obama lie Reader wishes to name?
Perhaps North Korea was involved in Sony / North Korea scenario; only a professional non-prejudicial not-propaganda motived investigation can provide what some call objective truth. TRUE or FALSE
One good thing about getting older is leaving some decisions to younger “smarter” people. TRUE or FALSE
Which side do Texas Drifter and Editor Marshall choose concerning Texas Open Carry? Answer is simple, we support policy which includes principle that liberty requires personal responsibility. TRUE not FALSE
Clue – Compare down sides to one upside – more freedom requires more personal responsibility.
Bonus question one – When public law enforcement cannot do, is to politically correct, or corrupt to do their jobs; pragmatic options might include private law enforcement. TRUE or FALSE
Clue – Consider Southerners responses to “Yankee Conservative Republican Carpetbaggers” economic and political genocide against “deserving vanquished” following America’s first Civil War. Reader might review previously referenced Entry # 742 “Sacred Origin Second Amendment” for more information; plus also review “spirit of law” for Texas 1876 Constitution.
Bonus question two – Anytime Reader starts to agree with or believe Obama or his Administration; Reader might ask themselves if they are becoming demented since they suddenly find Obama to not be serial liar? TRUE or FALSE
Not a cue, just a bonus thought – What was old adage: “Have Gun – Will Travel”. Perhaps new interpretation, when Reader considers options for law abiding citizen-patriots; when cops have trouble protecting their own from liberal haters, might be: “Private Law Enforcement – Will Travel – For Silver”. Just asking, not suggesting. Reader might review definition of pragmatic.
