“No Tears for Valentine”
ACT I
P:
Old men call her lady
Rich ones page a servant
Doesn’t matter what they sing
Valentine’s back in love
Still recall our start
Good memories die last
P:
Spoke up too soon
Thought I desired a wife.
Had to meet her people
Never be the same.
Father talked of poverty
No one really listened
Mother brought up children
Sister grinned Valentine’s pure
Her husband fondled my joy
Nephew to be tortured the dog
Can’t believe this is happening
Need to take a break
Planning to tolerate them
Valentine takes my side
(Sometimes good memories fade away)
ACT II
P:
Tired of your load
Must remove this ring
Should have known better
Trapped by your style
Conned your vain friends
They enjoyed the gossip
Made me a success
To unlock your mansion
P:
Not really bitter
Weary of group pride
Vacate this my place
Bear sons for my enemies
Am tired of excuses
Your type of lie
Valentine seeks her chills
Holding carrots for mules
P:
Simpler to take the loss
Not too addicted to stay
In the wrong place
At the wrong time
Timing just not there
Found a violent crime
Found bloody notebook
Near an ugly corpse
P:
Felt a little fear
When victim’s aura
Gently soaked my soul
No time for tears
One score to settle
F-150 running fine
Hands on the wheel
Two stops to Make
ACT III
P: You here to arrest me?
S: Talk about it
Couple questions.
S: Why not go to wake?
Why not go to burying?
P: Never see them dead
Never sure they died
S: You shoot that man?
P: Got less than deserved
S: That is a fact
Was it self defense?
P: He grabbed
I drew
Before you ask
Deserved all six
S: Looks like you’re leaving
P: Going South then some
S: Stop by office in morning
Or never come back
P: I will do that
S: Night
(Deputy back at sheriff’s F-150)
SD: You let him go
S: He won’t be back
Like he said
Self defense / deserved more
Man not known to lie
S: Only thing to live for
One dying good memory
He won’t be back
Why waste our time

Editor Marshall’s Note: Texas Drifter informed me that he uses “visual prose” (process of using few words as possible to inform and entertain) as warm up writing exercises. Example, consider following warm up exercise for Library Entry # 636 “Obama Planning on Third Term?”
